General Body Meeting Minutes 0. Introduction - 2009 BAGR General Body Meeting was held on April 18, 2009 at ICC. - It was attended by nearly the complete membership. - No PA system was available. 1. General Remarks - Had problem with print vendor for Bivash. - Alternate Bivash print vendor has been identified. - Bivash samples were available & orders were taken. - Advertising revenues remained steady during the year. - Please patronize our advertisers and mention you saw their Ad in Bengali Magazine. - Restaurant Advertisers were: India House, Tandoor, and Thali of India. - Grocery Advertisers were: Desi Bazaar, India House, and Namaste. - Mention Bengali Association at Tandoor Restaurant and get $1 off lunch & $2 off dinner per person - Website, Email List, & Facebook group have been created and/or updated. - Directory is available. Added a merchants' section to the directory. - Committee decided that good financial situation justified adding another event. - Committee decided to revive Winter Picnic. - Online access to checking account has been set up. 2. Year-in-Review - Kunal Bhowmick, the Secretary, provided a vivid description of our year's events. - They were: Summer Picnic, Bijoya, Saraswati Puja, Winter Picnic, & Noboborsho. - Slideshow played during dinner with pictures from the events. 3. Financial Update - Summary report showed estimated slight net surplus for the year. - Summary report was prepared and signed by Peter Paul. - Summary report was audited and signed by Asit De. - Final report will include exact Noboborsho & Bivash revenue and expenses. - Maintaining slightly more than $6500 in the bank account. - Detailed spreadsheet showing every check written and detailed revenue is available. 4. Questions from the floor Question on whether the Winter Picnic was self-financed? No, it was not. Proposal to require that the Winter Picnic be completely self-financed was rejected by a majority vote of the general body. Proposal to allow the Executive Committee to decide, based on the financial situation at the time, whether or not to have a Winter Picnic was passed by a overwhelming majority vote of the general body. Question on what is the size of the BAGR membership? ~53 Members (Ed: actual number is 43) Question on what % of the Rochester Bengali Community are members of BAGR? Based on membership and size of the directory, ~75% (Ed: actually closer to 60%). It was noted that some Community members are not listed in the directory so the actual number is lower. 5. Elections - The President (elected last year) is Lilly Mitra. - The following people were elected to office at this meeting: Secretary: Avijit Dasgupta Treasurer: Falguni Bagchee Committee Members: Indrani Mitra, Ranu Ghosh, Anita Banerjee,and Nilanjan Dasgupta President-Elect for 2010-11: Soumyaroop Bhattacharya 6. Meeting Closure The new BAGR President, Lilly Mitra, led the membership in thanking the 2008-09 committee for their service and the meeting was closed. Executive Committee 2009-2010 BAGR has elected the new Executive Committee for the year 2009-2010 during Poila Boisakh. Click here to see the new members.
